NDC STATEMENT ON COURT RULING Our attention has been drawn to a ruling by the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja this morning, wherein His Lordship, Honourable Justice Isah Dashen, gave a ruling on an application filed by an unregistered association known as Peace Movement Party. The public knows that by December 2025, the Nigeria Democratic Congress  as an association complained of INEC’s refusal to register us as a political party, whereupon we proceeded to the Federal High Court. ABANDONED BABY DISCOVERED INSIDE A BAG TODAY IN OKPUNO, ANAMBRA STATE . (PHOTOS).

Abandoned Baby Discovered Inside a bag today in Okpuno, Anambra State

A newborn baby was discovered around nine o’clock today, Sunday, 1st February 2026, at a shop along Pope John Paul Seminary School Street, Umuodu Village, Okpuno, alive.

The baby was discovered by a nurse, Mrs. Mercy Iloanya, who said she went to her shop, which is close to the shop where the baby was dropped, when she noticed a bag containing the baby.

According to Nurse Iloanya, she immediately called the attention of a man she saw along the street, who confirmed that the baby was alive before they alerted the woman whose shop the baby was dropped in front of.

Mrs. Chika Onyema, who owns the shop, told ABS that when they opened the bag, they saw a written note accompanying the baby in which the mother appealed to her to help take care of the child.

Good Samaritans who gathered to witness the situation quickly contributed baby items, while mostly women gasped in awe as they wondered why someone would do such a thing.

ABS took the baby to Anambra Police B Division, where an entry was made, and afterwards took the child to the Intensive Care Unit at the Mother and Child Department of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, at the instance of the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
