 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence.  ANAMBRA POLICE RECEIVES AN ALLEGED MURDER SUSPECT FROM THE MILITARY OVER ROAD AMBUSH ATTACK IN URUM: INTENSIFIES MANHUNT FOR OTHER SUSPECTS


The Anambra State Police Command on 5th February 2026 received a 52-year old male suspect, Ndibe Jude Onyenwe, from operatives of the 302 Artillery Regiment, Nigerian Army Cantonment Onitsha, in connection with an ongoing investigation involving conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, grievous bullet injuries, and murder in Urum.


The suspect is alleged to have conspired with one Felix Godwin and other persons currently at large to sponsor armed men for a violent ambush along the road in Urum, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.


During interrogation, Ndibe Jude Onyenwe reportedly confessed that Felix Godwin allegedly paid the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000) through an Access Bank account to hire four gunmen from Ayamelum Local Government Area, alongside one Emeka (surname unknown) from Urum Community, who reportedly led the attack. He also stated that Felix mobilized him with the sum of Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦350,000) for the purchase of four packets of cartridges used in the operation.


During the deadly ambush, six persons sustained serious bullet injuries.


The suspect is currently undergoing further interrogation as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the Command has intensified efforts to apprehend other suspects still at large.


The Anambra State Police Command assures the public that further developments will be communicated in due course. The Command equally reiterates its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that justice is served.
