The Benue State Government has announced plans to remove illegal structures along the road from Savannah Roundabout to Government House in Makurdi, as part of a major road dualization project.
Officials clarified that the move is in line with the approval of the dualization under Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s administration, aimed at improving traffic flow and modernizing the city’s infrastructure.
The government addressed misinformation surrounding a building in District 4 reportedly owned by Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, stating that the structure had been earmarked for demolition since 2024 for violating building regulations. Authorities added that the owner was advised to remove it over two years ago but failed to do so.
Authorities also warned against spreading false narratives on social media, emphasizing that the demolition is part of a lawful effort to clear encroachments and is not targeted at any individual.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to good governance and urban development, calling on residents to cooperate with the exercise to ensure the successful completion of the road dualization project.
