Danica Patrick recently weighed in on political tensions that flared during one of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union addresses. The NASCAR star reposted content from the Instagram account House In Habit and added her own commentary, sharing an image of Representative Ilhan Omar with the caption: “What a time to be alive. And a Republican. I mean, rational. Same thing.”
Omar, a Democrat who has served in Congress since 2019, had clashed with Trump during the speech, loudly accusing him of lying and of responsibility for the deaths of two constituents during federal immigration operations.
The exchange grew heated as Trump defended his administration’s immigration policies and criticized sanctuary jurisdictions. He rebuked Omar and other Democrats for not standing when he declared that the government’s first duty was to protect Americans, not “illegal aliens.”
The atmosphere intensified when Trump described parts of Minnesota’s Somali community as corrupt, prompting further protests from Omar. Her guest in the gallery, Aliya Rahman, was detained after a silent protest, which Omar later condemned as heavy‑handed and dangerous for democracy.
Patrick’s Instagram post came in the wake of Trump escalating his rhetoric online, where he suggested Omar and fellow congresswoman Rashida Tlaib should be “institutionalized.”
Patrick has been a vocal supporter of Trump, endorsing him in 2024 and attending his second inauguration in 2025. She has tied Republican affiliation to rationality in her posts, defended MAGA branding, and supported policies restricting transgender participation in sports.
More recently, she celebrated Team USA’s hockey victories with a jab at Canada, writing that if the country had joined the U.S. as the “51st state,” it too would have been a gold medalist.
