 NLC backs new SSG Chiamaka Nnake, Seeks Workers Welfare  By Ukpa Ewa  The Organized Labour in Anambra State has pledged support to the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, while urging her to place the interest of Anambra and workers’ welfare at the forefront of her administration. The labour delegation, led by Comrade Humphrey Emeka Nwafor of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Comrade Chris Ogbonna of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), paid a courtesy visit to the new SSG at the Light House in Awka. Speaking during the visit, Comrade Nwafor said the office of the SSG plays a key role in government labour relations and called on Mrs. Nnake to ensure Anambra workers are given due attention in government affairs. He also congratulated her on becoming the first female SSG in the state at a young age, describing her appointment as historic. ENUGU POLICE OPERATIVES RAID CRIMINAL HOTSPOTS, ARREST 15 SUSPECTS, RECOVER FIREARM, AMMUNITION, DRUGS, OTHERS


Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command attached to the Crack Tactical Squad, in the early hours of 16th February 2026, acted on credible intelligence and raided identified criminal hotspots at Four Corners area of Ozalla community in Nkanu West Local Government Area.


Fifteen (15) suspects, comprising nine (9) males and six (6) females, were arrested during the operation. Two polythene bags filled with dried weed suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspects. A further search of the area led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with one live cartridge.


The suspects are currently undergoing thorough screening. Those found not culpable will be released, while those found culpable will be duly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has directed supervisory officers in charge of operations and investigations to sustain the Command’s proactive crime-fighting strategy by identifying and dismantling criminal hideouts, as well as arresting and prosecuting offenders. He also urged residents to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information.
