 Northwest University Debunks Claim Emir of Kano Sanusi Attended Lecture To Clear Carry-Over Northwest University, Kano, has dismissed a viral claim that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, attended a lecture at the institution to clear an alleged academic carry-over. The university described the claim as false, baseless and misleading in a disclaimer dated August 10, 2026, issued by its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim, and published on its Facebook page. The institution said it had observed the circulation of a video showing Sanusi after attending a public lecture organised by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the university. According to the university, some social media users subsequently attached captions to the video claiming that the Emir had a carry-over and visited the institution to resolve the alleged academic deficiency. Jim Carrey took the Paris spotlight on Thursday night, not just for the career honor he received, but for an appearance that had fans buzzing.


The 64-year-old actor arrived at the 51st César Awards held at the historic L'Olympia in a sleek, all-black suit, exuding classic Hollywood style. 


Carrey was presented with an Honorary César, a celebration of his decades-long contributions to film, and delivered a heartfelt speech dedicating the milestone to his late father.


“I wanted to recognize my dad. I mean, my dad was the type of person that if you met him for five minutes, you felt like you knew him for 50 years,” Carrey said, a clip from the ceremony quickly going viral online.


While many applauded the tribute and celebrated Carrey’s incredible filmography, including The Mask, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Liar Liar, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, social media users couldn’t help but comment on his appearance.


Within minutes, fans flooded platforms with reactions, noting a noticeably different look. 


Some suggested cosmetic changes, with one remarking, “Must have had a lot of work done to his face. Looks very different.” Another said, “Man, he looks different! Hasn’t been in the public eye for a while.”


Comparisons and jokes followed, with one fan asking, “Is he turning into Bill Maher? He looks… different.” 


Others referenced Kris Jenner’s recent facelift, suggesting, “Ooh, fire that plastic surgeon and call Kris Jenner’s.” 


Some were more direct, commenting, “I’m no conspiracy theorist, but that’s not Jim Carrey,” or, “Surgery effects are starting to show.” One even wondered, “Is he wearing a mask? Look at his neck.”


Despite the chatter, the majority of fans focused on the honor itself, celebrating the recognition of Carrey’s impact on comedy and film over the years.
