The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday. KIEFER SUTHERLAND'S CASE PAUSED AS DA ORDERS FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED RIDE-SHARE ALTERCATION. (PHOTO).

Kiefer Sutherland's case paused as DA orders further investigation into alleged ride-share altercation

The investigation into actor Kiefer Sutherland remains ongoing after his arrest last month on suspicion of making felony criminal threats, and prosecutors have not yet decided whether to file charges, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Monday. Sutherland had been scheduled to appear in court in Los Angeles, but that appearance was postponed after prosecutors sent the case back to police for additional investigation. Authorities said the review is still active and no final determination has been made.

Sutherland was arrested on Jan. 12 after police responded to a report of an alleged altercation involving a ride-share driver near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. He was taken into custody and later released after posting $50,000 bond, according to jail records. Law enforcement officials said the driver claimed Sutherland punched him multiple times and attempted to choke him during the confrontation. Police said there were no injuries that required medical treatment, and Sutherland was not arrested on suspicion of assault. The actor has not publicly commented on the incident. Sutherland is best known for his Emmy-winning role as Jack Bauer on the series “24” and for portraying President Thomas Kirkman on “Designated Survivor.” He is the son of the late actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas.
