Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have arrived at the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat in Abuja, amid cheers from supporters, marking a significant shift in Nigeria's political landscape. They are strengthening unity ahead of the 2027 elections.  The two leaders, who previously quit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to internal crises and hostility, are expected to hold a consultative meeting with NDC leaders to discuss future collaborations , Peter Obi cited a toxic political environment, internal crises, and external interference as ons for leaving the ADC. He emphasized the need for genuine service delivery and national progress.  Nigerian Army Recovers Locally Fabricated IEDs in Abia Forest During Clearance Operation


Troops of the Nigerian Army's 14 Brigade, Ohafia, have recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a clearance patrol in Umuchinma Forest, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.


The discovery occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., along the Umuchinma pipeline route leading into the forest. According to a statement from the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 14 Brigade, Captain Mazinho Attah, the IEDs were locally fabricated using 5kg gas cylinders packed with nails, water-gel explosives, two detonators, and electrical cables.


The operation was part of intensified security efforts to counter criminal activities linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its affiliated groups, including preparatory actions for the Brigade’s ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY offensive.


Further searches in the area led to the recovery of four empty cartridge cases and two bags containing additional nails. Troops also dismantled a suspected camp used by criminal elements operating in the forest.


The breakthrough followed credible intelligence from a suspect currently under investigation, who confessed to expertise in explosives fabrication.


Brigade Commander, Brigadier General A.M. Dikko, commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience, and determination in executing the mission. "Further exploitation of the Umuchinma Forest is ongoing," the statement added.
