A young man has been hospitalised after armed robbers allegedly shot him and stole his motorcycle and mobile phone in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The incident, which has triggered outrage on social media, was disclosed by the victim’s elder brother, identified as Awar SteevoooFresh. In an emotional post, he said his younger sibling, Geo Freeman, was attacked by assailants who shot him before making away with his bike and iOS phone.
According to the account, the victim is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Benue State following the attack, which reportedly occurred within Makurdi metropolis.
Describing his brother as a hardworking and vibrant young man striving to earn a living, the family lamented the growing insecurity in the state. The post decried what it termed the rising wave of motorcycle theft and violent robberies allegedly carried out by criminal elements targeting unsuspecting residents.
The attack has once again brought to the fore concerns over armed robbery and motorcycle snatching in Makurdi and other parts of the state. Such incidents, often involving firearms, have left victims injured or worse, heightening fear among commercial motorcyclists and young entrepreneurs who depend on motorcycles for daily income.
There was no official confirmation from security agencies regarding the incident, and details such as the exact location and date remain unverified beyond the family’s account.
Meanwhile, sympathisers have continued to call for improved security measures and swift action against perpetrators, stressing that citizens should not face violence while pursuing legitimate livelihoods.
The victim is said to be responding to treatment as prayers and goodwill messages pour in for his speedy recovery.
