 Governor Alex Otti Highlights How Kidnappers, Bandits Were Dislodged from Abia Communities in Abia Third Anniversary Speech Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has disclosed that his administration inherited a security crisis in which kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminal gangs held several communities hostage before being dislodged through sustained operations. Speaking during his third anniversary celebration at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Friday, Governor Otti revealed that bandits had established camps inside forests across the state, from where they launched attacks on innocent residents, causing panic and displacement. “Security was a major challenge in the state three years ago. Several communities were held hostage as kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminal groups set up camps in the forests from where they launched sporadic attacks on innocent Abians,” Otti said.  SEVERAL FEARED DEAD IN ROAD CRASH AT TARHEMBE MARKET IN BENUE 




A fatal road traffic accident has reportedly claimed multiple lives along the Tarhembe Market route in Tarka Local Government Area.


The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 16, 2026, near a sharp bend shortly after Tarhembe Market. Eyewitnesses say the crash involved a yet-to-be-identified vehicle, with several passengers feared dead at the scene.


Authorities are yet to release an official statement confirming the number of casualties and the cause of the accident. Emergency responders were said to have moved to the scene shortly after the crash.


Residents have been advised to contact family members and loved ones who may have travelled through the Tarka road corridor on Monday morning to confirm their safety.


Meanwhile, community members are again calling attention to the dangerous bend along the Tarka road, which they describe as a recurring accident spot. They are urging the Benue State Government and relevant agencies to take urgent steps to improve safety measures on the stretch.
