 Former Kennedy Center employees allege leadership delayed roof repairs before citing safety issues in closure decision Former Kennedy Center employees allege that the venue’s leadership knew about serious structural problems well before citing newly discovered hazards as the reason for its abrupt closure this month. The claims were outlined in a letter to Congress from a lawyer representing anonymous whistleblowers. The letter accuses the center’s executive director and chief operating officer, Matt Floca, of failing to prioritize roof repairs and stopping a funded repair plan in April. Floca disputes the allegations, saying recent inspections revealed that water damage had spread farther into the building than officials previously knew. In a September court declaration, Floca cited “acute risks to public safety” following an inspection that found deterioration in a roof terrace canopy and a partial ceiling collapse.  1 DEAD, PROPERTIES DESTROYED IN OGBADIBO CLASH BETWEEN ODOBA & EPAIGBO - EYEWITNESSES  


Tensions escalated into violence yesterday between the Odoba and Epaigbo communities in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, leaving one person dead and several properties destroyed.


Residents told reporters that the crisis began when an Odoba vigilante allegedly shot and killed a youth from Epaigbo over a ₦9,000 debt. The fatal shooting reportedly ignited anger among Epaigbo youths, who retaliated against members of the Odoba community.


Eyewitnesses said the confrontation quickly spiraled into widespread clashes. “Buildings were set on fire, and people ran for their lives,” one local resident recounted, requesting anonymity. Several others sustained injuries as chaos spread through the communities.


Community leaders have expressed grave concern over the violence and are appealing for calm. “We urge our youths to exercise restraint and allow security agencies to handle the situation,” said a traditional ruler from Ogbadibo.


Authorities have been called upon to investigate the incident thoroughly and hold those responsible accountable. Security agencies are expected to intervene to restore peace and prevent further escalation.


The incident underscores ongoing tensions in the area and highlights the urgent need for dialogue and conflict resolution to prevent similar outbreaks of violence in the future.
