 Charlize Theron is 'not haunted' anymore by her mother fatally shooting her father: 'He was going to kill us' Charlize Theron recently opened up about a traumatic event from her teenage years, when her mother fatally shot her father in self-defense.  In a candid interview, the Mad Max: Fury Road star explained that sharing her story helps others feel less isolated.  She recalled believing her family was alone in experiencing such violence, but now she feels unburdened by the memory and sees value in speaking about it publicly. Theron described the tense evening leading up to the incident, beginning with a confrontation sparked by her father’s anger after she failed to greet him properly.
