 EDUCATION DISTRICT I ORGANISES ANNUAL SPORTS FESTIVAL


Lagos State Education District I has held its Y2026 sports festival with a vibrant celebration of unity, excellence, and youthful energy at the Dairy Farm School Complex recently. 


The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Dr. (Mrs.) Idowu Olufunke Oyetola stood at the heart of it all with her presence, leadership and active participation and set the tone for an unforgettable event that brought together students, educators and distinguished dignitaries in a powerful display of sportsmanship and community spirit.


Dr. Oyetola, in her eloquent and inspiring welcome address, warmly received all dignitaries and participants. She acknowledged the former Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Modupe David; the Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Mrs. Busari and extended profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as well as the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.


She emphasised the importance of sports as a powerful tool for youth empowerment, discipline, and unity, encouraging all participants to compete with integrity and fairness.


One of the most extraordinary highlights of the festival was the grand parade of athletes. Students from Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Alimosho marched with elegance, discipline, and pride, showcasing unity in diversity. 


In a truly inspiring and symbolic gesture, the Permanent Secretary herself joined the parade, marching side by side with the students. This rare and admirable display of leadership ignited excitement across the field, reflecting her deep connection with the students and her commitment to leading by example.


The sporting competitions began with electrifying momentum. The 100-meter junior race showcased speed and determination, while the 800-meter race tested endurance and resilience. The football match delivered thrilling moments of teamwork and strategy, captivating spectators. One of the most exciting highlights was the high table relay race, where Dr. Oyetola demonstrated remarkable agility and competitive spirit, emerging in first position. Her victory drew resounding cheers and applause, further solidifying her image as a dynamic and inspiring leader.


At the conclusion of the competitions, Agege emerged as the overall winner, displaying outstanding performance and teamwork. Ifako-Ijaiye secured the position of first runner-up, while Alimosho came in as the second runner-up. Each team exhibited commendable sportsmanship, making the event both competitive and inspiring.


As the festival drew to a close, heartfelt appreciation was extended to all organisers, dignitaries, staff, and students whose dedication ensured the success of the event. The 2026 Sports Festival of Education District I, Agege, was not just a competition but a celebration of unity, leadership, and excellence.
