 PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS AMBASSADOR ENIKANOLAIYE ON HIS BIRTHDAY   President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, on his birthday.    A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, indicates that the President describes Ambassador Enikanolaiye as a distinguished diplomat, accomplished administrator and dedicated public servant whose career reflects professionalism, patriotism and a deep commitment to Nigeria.   Ambassador Enikanolaiye served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from August 1982 to August 2017, rising through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary.  Iran says it will skip World Cup in United States due to US attacks, sports minister says

  

 With the World Cup just three months away, Iranian officials announced that their national team will not participate in the tournament.

Iran’s sports minister, Ahmad Donyamali, said the team cannot compete because of U.S. attacks. He told Iranian state television, “Due to the wicked acts they have done against Iran – they have imposed two wars on us over just eight or nine months and have killed and martyred thousands of our people – definitely it’s not possible for us to take part in the World Cup.” Earlier, Mehdi Taj, head of Iran’s Football Federation, also questioned whether the team would attend.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino spoke with President Donald Trump earlier this week and confirmed that the Iranian team is welcome to compete. Iran has been drawn into Group G and is scheduled to play New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles on June 15 and 21, followed by a match against Egypt in Seattle on June 26. The tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, runs from June 11 through July 19.
