 LAGOS SCHOOLS RECEIVE N20M SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS, CASH PRIZES, TROPHIES IN COMPETITION


Winners of the year 2024 Aketi Bowl ll National Competition, held in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, were on Wednesday, presented with Prize Money, Trophies and Scholarship Awards in recognition of their commitment and dedication at the event.


The Nigerian American Football Association (NAFA) and the Nigeria Secondary School Flag Football League (NSSFFL) presented winners of the male and female categories from Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Oshodi and Army Cantonment Girls Senior School Ojo, with N20,000,000 scholarship awards, N1,000,000 cash awards, and a trophy each.


Speaking during the presentation, held in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Commissioner, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun commended NAFA for promoting innovation and sports development among Nigerian youth.


He viewed sports as a vital part of education, contributing to students' physical and mental health, and affirmed the State Government's readiness to support related initiatives.


The Secretary General of NAFA, Mr. Lawrence Ojaige expressed delight in the exceptional performance showcased by Lagos Schools and achievements attained in the competition's third edition, noting that it is the second time Lagos State took the lead in the competition.


Mr. Ojaige disclosed that Lagos State won both male and female categories in the 2023 maiden edition. "Lagos Schools' absence in the 2025 edition was greatly missed, and I'm sure it was their absence that gave way to other winners", he enthused.


He also noted that the two schools have brought immense pride to Lagos State with their dedication and achievements, and deserve the awards and gifts.


He, however, appealed for more support from the State Governments towards the Secondary School Flag Football games in subsequent years ahead.
