Mali’s Tuareg rebels say Russian fighters must withdraw from country Mali’s Tuareg rebels, involved in a continuing uprising, including the assassination of the country’s defence minister, have said they want to drive the military government’s Russian backers out of the country, Al Jazeera reported. NATO withdraws hundreds of troops from Iraq as conflict with Iran escalates

NATO has withdrawn several hundred personnel from Iraq as the conflict with Iran intensifies, the alliance announced Friday.

The last members of NATO Mission Iraq departed the country on Friday, including troops from NATO allies and partner nations such as Austria and Australia. The withdrawal follows Iranian attacks on British, French, and Italian bases in Iraq. NATO’s mission, established in 2018 at Iraq’s request, focused on training Iraqi security forces and supporting anti-terrorism efforts, but its personnel were not deployed alongside Iraqi forces in combat operations.

U.S. Air Force Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, commander of NATO forces in Europe, thanked Iraq and NATO allies for assisting with the relocation and praised the mission personnel for their professionalism. The announcement comes amid criticism from President Trump, who has pushed NATO to take a more active role in securing the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil shipping route, while questioning the alliance’s commitment to regional security.
