 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.  NLC DEMANDS WAGE AWARDS FOR WORKERS, REVIVE NIGERIAN REFINERIES


The Nigeria Labour Congress has raised alarm over the sharp rise in petrol, blaming global tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran. 


In a statement, the labour body says the development has adversely affected the Nigerian workers and exposed the weakness of the country’s downstream petroleum sector.


The NLC is calling on the federal government to urgently revive the refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna, while demanding wage awards, tax relief and improved support for vulnerable citizens. It also urged the government to ensure that the projected ₦30 trillion oil windfall from the Middle East crisis is used to cushion the economic impact on Nigerians.
