OpenAI plans to expand workforce to 8,000 employees by the end of 2026, report says
Artificial intelligence company OpenAI is preparing to nearly double its workforce, aiming to grow from 4,500 employees to 8,000 by the end of 2026, according to a report from the Financial Times citing sources familiar with the plans.
Most of the new hires are expected to join teams in product development, engineering, research, and sales. The company is also recruiting specialists in “technical ambassadorship,” who will work with businesses to maximize their use of OpenAI’s tools. The expansion comes after OpenAI’s latest funding round valued the company at $840 billion, which included participation from major tech firms and Masayoshi Son’s SoftBank. In December, CEO Sam Altman reportedly declared an internal “code red,” halting non-essential projects and shifting resources to speed up development in response to Google’s Gemini 3.
