Opposition politicians denying me credit for roads I constructed not true Igbos — Gov Otti

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to accelerated development, declaring that delivering tangible projects remains the most effective reply to criticism and denial from political opponents.

Speaking at a grand civic reception held in honour of the state's Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN, at Annunco Secondary School in Isuikwuato on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Governor Otti addressed claims by some opposition figures that his administration's completed roads and other achievements should be credited to previous governments.

The governor expressed concern over what he described as deliberate attempts to undermine his Labour Party-led administration's record, particularly in infrastructure. He stated that such denials, driven by partisan differences, contradict the values associated with Igbo identity.

“You cannot see a road that was done, and you say it wasn’t done. You cannot see a road that somebody did, and credit it to somebody else. If you do that, you are not an Igbo man,” Otti said. “True Igbos are not known for being dishonest.”

He emphasized that his government would not engage in prolonged rebuttals. “But for us, we don’t even want to respond. Our response is more work. One thing you can be sure of is that this is your government,” he added.

Otti accused opposition elements of flooding the public with falsehoods about ongoing and completed projects in the state.

In a notable show of cross-party support, former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development and APC chieftain, Dr. Uche Ogah, publicly declared his backing for Otti's re-election in 2027. Ogah, who attended the event, praised the visible transformation in Abia under Otti's leadership, stating that progress transcends political affiliation.

“I have said it times without number and I am saying it again. In 2027, I, Uche Ogah, my family, my relatives, and everyone who loves me in Abia, will support Governor Alex Otti’s re-election so that he will continue his good work. Everything isn’t about politics. I am an APC member but I can’t deny the fact that Alex has transformed our state,” Ogah affirmed.

Governor Otti commended Uwanna as a key pillar of his administration, thanking God for the honouree's recent elevation to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and highlighting his consistent contributions and support.

The reception, organized by Isuikwuato leaders and attended by government officials, traditional rulers, and political figures, underscored growing recognition of the administration's infrastructure drive amid ongoing political debates in the state.
