 LAGOS EMPOWERS FISH FARMERS IN IKEJA DIVISION WITH TRAINING, EQUIPMENT  … Reaffirms Commitment To Building 21st-Century Economy As part of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu's commitment to advancing the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda and positioning Lagos State as a 21st Century economy through the socio-economic empowerment of rural communities, the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), under the Office of Rural Development in the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, has commenced the 2026 Fish Farming Training and Empowerment Programme across the five divisions of the State. The programme, themed "Building a Resilient Socio-Economic Community through Youth Empowerment," commenced its first edition for the year at the Secretariat of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area in the Ikeja Division.  Peter Obi Condemns Arrest of Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Umar in Kaduna”

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the arrest of Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Umar, in Kaduna, describing the development as a threat to freedom of expression.

Obi disclosed that the cleric was arrested shortly after hosting him in Kaduna, raising concerns about the state of civil liberties and political tolerance in the country.

In a statement, Obi warned that such actions could undermine democratic principles, stressing that recent developments in Nigeria’s political space “must be nipped in the bud.” He called on authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure that citizens’ rights are protected at all times.

The former Anambra State governor further decried what he described as growing suppression and intimidation of opposition voices, urging the government to refrain from actions that could stifle dissent or weaken democratic institutions.

He emphasized that a healthy democracy thrives on freedom of speech .
