 Kenyan lawyers boycott courts over alleged judicial corruption Kenyan lawyers staged a nationwide boycott of court proceedings on Wednesday to protest alleged judicial corruption and chronic delays. Cases in the East African nation take an average of two years to conclude, according to official records, with lawyers blaming graft and systemic inefficiencies. "The court boycott is going on in courts across the country, with many lawyers heeding the call," Charles Kanjama, the president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), told reporters. However, the judiciary said that accountability mechanisms already exist through the Judicial Service Commission and the Office of the Judiciary Ombudsman, where complaints against judges and judicial officers can be lodged and investigated, according to a statement released prior to the boycott.  POLICE INSPECTOR KILLED NEAR MAKURDI IDP CAMP, FLEE WITH SERVICE RIFLE 


A police inspector, identified as Otor Ejiga, has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen near a mega internally displaced persons (IDP) camp along Gbajimba Road in Makurdi.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, March 20, 2026, raising fresh concerns about security around IDP settlements in the state.


Sources said the officer was attached to the camp but was reportedly manning an unauthorised solitary checkpoint when he was attacked.


Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants opened fire on the inspector at close range before fleeing with his Type 06 rifle.


A patrol team later arrived at the scene, recovered his remains, and transported them to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy.


Security agencies have since launched a manhunt to track down the attackers and recover the stolen weapon.

Meanwhile, authorities have commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident. The officer in charge of the checkpoint is reportedly being queried over possible supervisory lapses.


The killing has heightened anxiety among residents, with calls for stricter regulation of informal checkpoints and improved protection for personnel deployed around IDP camps.


No group has claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of this report, and police authorities are yet to issue an official statement.
