Ray J is back in the legal spotlight as American Express takes action over an alleged unpaid credit card balance.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the singer, 45, is being sued in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, for breach of contract.
The complaint claims Ray J owes $78,704.56 and stopped making payments on the account around October 2024. The suit also names Rajun Cajun Inc., a company reportedly linked to Ray J.
This is not the first time American Express has pursued the singer. A previous lawsuit, filed in November 2025 against Ray J and his company Tronix Network, sought $139,849.85 in unpaid bills, alleging that payments on that account ceased in May 2025.
Ray J’s legal troubles extend beyond financial disputes. In November 2025, he was arrested after allegedly pulling a gun on his estranged wife, Princess Love, during a livestream argument. He faced charges of making a criminal threat, with bail set at $50,000, and was released later that day, according to TMZ. Video footage of the livestream showed him calling it “the worst Thanksgiving in the f---ing world” and accusing his ex and others of wanting to “drive drunk.”
The singer is also involved in a separate, high-profile legal battle with his ex, Kim Kardashian, and her mother, Kris Jenner.
He filed a cross-complaint in November 2025, claiming the pair breached a $6 million settlement related to his and Kardashian’s 2003 sex tape by discussing it again publicly on The Kardashians.
Ray J maintains that the tape was filmed consensually and alleges that he and Kardashian began negotiating a public release in 2006, with Jenner overseeing the process.
A spokesperson for Kardashian and Jenner previously told PEOPLE that the false allegations “left no choice” but to respond legally.
