 Serena Williams falls to 20-year-old Maya Joint in Wimbledon return after nearly four-year singles absence Serena Williams showed flashes of the power and precision that defined her Hall of Fame career in her return to professional singles tennis Tuesday, but ultimately fell short in a three-set opening-round loss at Wimbledon. The 44-year-old Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, was defeated 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 by 20-year-old Australian Maya Joint in a match that lasted 2 hours and 22 minutes on Centre Court.  Russian drone strike kills two in Zaporizhzhia ahead of US-Ukraine talks

  

A Russian drone strike on Zaporizhzhia on Saturday morning killed a man and a woman and injured two children, Ukrainian officials said, just as a U.S.-Ukraine diplomatic engagement was expected in Miami. The drone hit a private home in the city, raising concerns about civilian safety amid ongoing tensions with Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dispatched an official delegation to the United States to resume stalled U.S.-brokered talks aimed at ending Russia’s invasion. The mission seeks to restart trilateral negotiations with Moscow, which have produced little progress, and to ensure continued U.S. support for arms transfers from NATO allies. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the pause in talks is temporary, while Western officials note that Russian forces still control nearly 20% of Ukrainian territory. Meanwhile, the Iran conflict and temporary U.S. waivers on Russian oil have complicated Ukraine’s financial situation, even as it awaits a 90-billion-euro aid package from the European Union.
