 U.S warns citizens in Nigeria of possible 'terrorist threat' The ​embassy has been on heightened alert ⁠since the U.S. and Israel ​launched coordinated strikes against Iran. U.S. ​citizens should take additional precautions when traveling to the embassy in the capital ​Abuja and the U.S. consulate ​in commercial capital Lagos and U.S.-affiliated schools, ‌the ⁠embassy said, Reuters reported. The embassy did not give details on the security threat, but Nigerian authorities have in ​recent days ​stepped up ⁠security in Abuja following threats of pro-Iranian protests. In ​northern Nigeria, where there ​is ⁠a sizeable Shi'ite Muslim minority influenced by Iran, thousands of protesters ⁠have ​taken to the streets ​to march in support of Iran.

 SDP Holds 2026 National Executive Committee Meeting in Abuja


The  Social Democratic Party, SDP, at its National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja for the year 2026, approved and ratified nine decisions of the party taken between March 2022 and March 2026, including the votes and proceedings of March 9 2026.

Approved and ratified are party members appointed to fill vacant positions in the  National Working Committee NWC and the National Executive Committee NEC. 


The NEC meeting also approved and ratified the proposed programmes scheduled for 2026/2027 Party primary Elections, Congresses, Convention and other related activities. 


The SDP NEC also approved and ratified zoning for the seat of the National Chairman and that of the Presidential Candidate of the Party.


The amendment of the 2022 Constitution of the SDP to reflect the zoning formula and other amendments.

 The SDP NEC also approved and ratified disciplinary measures comprising suspension and expulsion of persons from the party during the time under review, including the acceptance of the resignation of some officials of the party.


The NEC  meeting also directed the National Working Committee to appoint persons to fill positions or remove persons in the National or Zonal or State Executive Committees of the SDP.


The SDP NEC meeting also recognises the administration and operations of the party's organs for improvement and effectiveness at all levels, as circumstances warrant or as may become expedient.
