ChargeTiger Woods is facing a DUI-related charge after a rollover crash in Martin County, Florida, on Friday afternoon, authorities have confirmed.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. near Jupiter Island.
The golf icon was later taken into custody, booked, and subsequently released after posting bond. He is facing charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusing to comply with a lawful test.
Speaking at a press briefing later in the day, Sheriff John M. Budensiek said Woods did not appear to have suffered any injuries at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle also walked away unharmed.
“Mr. Woods did not appear to be injured at all,” the sheriff said, adding that the golfer appeared lethargic when officers arrived and showed visible signs of impairment.
However, authorities said alcohol was not believed to be a factor. A breathalyzer test reportedly returned triple zeroes, ruling out alcohol use. Woods allegedly declined to provide a urine sample while at the jail.
Officials said Woods was alone in a Land Rover when the crash occurred. Investigators are still uncertain whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
The incident reportedly unfolded on South Beach Road, a narrow two-lane stretch, when a pressure-cleaning truck towing a small trailer began slowing down to turn into a driveway.
The truck driver told officers he noticed Woods’ SUV approaching at high speed from behind and tried to move aside.
Authorities say Woods then attempted to overtake the truck as it was turning. In the process, his vehicle struck the rear of the trailer, causing the SUV to tip over and roll onto its driver’s side before coming to a stop farther up the road.
Woods reportedly exited the overturned vehicle through the passenger-side door.
Images from the scene later showed the vehicle on its side, drawing immediate attention given the golfer’s history with serious car accidents.
The latest crash inevitably brings back memories of Woods’ previous road incidents, including the 2021 Los Angeles crash that left him with severe leg injuries requiring surgery, as well as his widely publicized 2009 accident near his Florida home.
For now, the focus shifts from the crash itself to the legal process ahead, as one of golf’s biggest names once again finds himself in the spotlight for reasons far removed from the course.
