  South Africa's Unemployment Rate Rises to 33.6% in Q2 2026 South Africa's unemployment rate climbed to 33.6% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 32.7% in the first quarter, according to new figures from the national statistics department. The number of unemployed people rose to 8.5 million, while the number of employed people fell by 16,000 to 16.7 million. The data shows job losses across key sectors including community and social services, mining, agriculture, manufacturing and utilities. The steepest declines were recorded in the Western Cape, Gauteng, and North West provinces. Officials did not provide clear reasons for the downturn, leaving the main drivers of the rising unemployment rate uncertain.

 Tinubu Tasks Traditional Rulers On Security And Unity


President Bola Tinubu has called on traditional rulers to strengthen their role in addressing insecurity and promoting unity across Nigeria.


Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President made the call at the autobiography launch of Samuel Oluyemisi Olu Falae.

He said traditional institutions remain vital to peacebuilding and grassroots stability, urging them to rise to the nation’s current challenges.

President Tinubu also described Oba Falae as a symbol of service, bridging tradition and modern governance, and expressed hope his legacy will inspire future leaders.
