Police in Derby arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after a car struck multiple pedestrians in the city center, sending seven people to hospitals.
The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Friar Gate, a busy area known for nightlife in central Derby, a city of roughly 275,000 northeast of Birmingham. Authorities said the man was apprehended a short distance from the scene and remains in police custody.
Counterterrorism officers are assisting local police with the investigation, a standard procedure for incidents of this nature.
