 Former Kennedy Center employees allege leadership delayed roof repairs before citing safety issues in closure decision Former Kennedy Center employees allege that the venue’s leadership knew about serious structural problems well before citing newly discovered hazards as the reason for its abrupt closure this month. The claims were outlined in a letter to Congress from a lawyer representing anonymous whistleblowers. The letter accuses the center’s executive director and chief operating officer, Matt Floca, of failing to prioritize roof repairs and stopping a funded repair plan in April. Floca disputes the allegations, saying recent inspections revealed that water damage had spread farther into the building than officials previously knew. In a September court declaration, Floca cited “acute risks to public safety” following an inspection that found deterioration in a roof terrace canopy and a partial ceiling collapse.  UK man arrested after car hits seven pedestrians in city center

 Police in Derby arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after a car struck multiple pedestrians in the city center, sending seven people to hospitals.

The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Friar Gate, a busy area known for nightlife in central Derby, a city of roughly 275,000 northeast of Birmingham. Authorities said the man was apprehended a short distance from the scene and remains in police custody.

Counterterrorism officers are assisting local police with the investigation, a standard procedure for incidents of this nature. Chief Superintendent Emma Aldred of Derbyshire Constabulary emphasized that the incident is not being treated as terrorism at this time, and investigators are keeping an open mind regarding the motive.
