Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is moving closer to a major life milestone, with college graduation on the horizon next year as she builds a future in healthcare.
Her mother, Mama June Shannon, shared the update during a chat with PEOPLE at the AMC Global Media 2026 Upfront event on April 29, noting that her 20-year-old daughter is currently based in Denver.
According to her, Alana has been balancing studies and work while pursuing her goal of becoming a pediatric intensive care unit nurse.
She explained that her daughter is gaining hands-on experience in a hospital setting while preparing to complete her studies next year.
“She is following her dreams of being a PICU nurse,” Mama June said, adding that graduation is expected in the coming year.
While no formal graduation plans have been finalized, the family is already looking ahead to another major celebration. Alana turns 21 in August, and her mother hinted that a trip to Las Vegas is on the cards for the birthday milestone.
Mama June, who is mother to four daughters including Alana, also reflected on recent family moments and challenges, including the loss of her daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell in 2023 after illness.
She also addressed a recent incident involving Alana in Denver, where the young adult was involved in a road accident after another driver collided with her vehicle.
She described the situation as serious but confirmed that Alana was okay, though she experienced some back discomfort and headaches afterward.
“She is fine,” she said, noting that the situation could have been much worse and that medical checks were carried out following the incident.
