Authorities in New Orleans are asking for the public’s help identifying a person accused of attempting to set fire to a Tesla facility early Tuesday morning in a suspected arson attack captured on surveillance video.
The incident happened around 2:54 a.m. at the Tesla of New Orleans location on Tchoupitoulas Street, according to fire officials. Video released by investigators shows an individual approaching the building and throwing what appears to be a Molotov cocktail at the front entrance, triggering a large fireball on impact.
Additional surveillance footage from a nearby property appears to show the same person walking away from the area after the explosion. Officials said the building’s owner contacted police to report damage from the attempted attack. As of Friday morning, no arrests had been made.
Law enforcement has previously seen Tesla facilities targeted in vandalism cases, including arson and other attacks, with some incidents linked to public anger directed at Elon Musk.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the New Orleans case to contact the New Orleans Fire Department or Crimestoppers.
