 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots.  BURUKU CHAIRMAN CONDEMNS KILLING OF NYSC MEMBER, DIRECTS IMMEDIATE PROSECUTION OF SUSPECTS 

A National Youth Service Corps member, Ben Agir Une, has died following an alleged assault by a vigilante group in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State. The council chairman has condemned the incident and ordered immediate prosecution of those involved.


The Executive Chairman of Buruku Local Government Council, Hon. Raymond Zege Aondoakura, has condemned the death of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ben Agir Une, following an alleged assault by members of a community vigilante group.


The incident reportedly occurred in Anibros Settlement, Buruku LGA, where Une, an indigene of Tongov in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, was apprehended during a night patrol on suspicion of possessing a stolen motorcycle.


According to the statement, the corps member was subjected to severe beating during the arrest, leaving him critically injured. He was later taken to a police station, where officers advised that he be rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment.


He was subsequently confirmed dead at the hospital after failing to respond to treatment.


Reacting, Hon. Aondoakura described the development as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” stressing that the act contradicts the values of justice and respect for human life in the area.


“This unfortunate act does not in any way represent who we are as a people. It is a grave violation, and it will not be tolerated,” the chairman stated.

He extended condolences to the deceased’s family, the people of Katsina-Ala LGA, and the management of the NYSC, noting that the loss is a painful blow to the nation.


The chairman disclosed that all individuals involved have been apprehended by security agencies and directed that a thorough investigation and diligent prosecution be carried out.

“We will not shield anyone found culpable. The law must take its full course,” he added.


He also warned community-based vigilante groups against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that suspects must always be handed over to proper law enforcement authorities.

Hon. Aondoakura reassured residents of Buruku LGA of his administration’s commitment to upholding peace, security, and the rule of law.
