 New UK Prime Minister not the leader Britain needs — Kemi Badenoch UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, has congratulated Andy Burnham on becoming Britain’s new prime minister but said while he is “a nice man,” the country needs a leader capable of making difficult decisions rather than “a people pleaser.” In a statement released on Monday on X following Burnham’s assumption of office, Badenoch wished the new prime minister success but vowed to hold his government accountable as Leader of the Opposition. “Today, Britain has a new Prime Minister. I wish Andy Burnham every success. Because we need a Prime Minister and a Government focused on fixing the public’s priorities,” she said.  FG DECLARES MAY 1ST AS PUBLIC HOLIDAY TO MARK INTERNATIONAL WORKERS’ DAY


The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May, 2026, as public holiday to mark International Workers’ Day.


In a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, says the declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.


The Minister congratulates Nigerian Workers and commends their contribution to national development.


He urges workers to remain committed to productivity, patriotism, and dedication to duty.


Tunji-Ojo equally assures that the government remains committed to improving workers’ welfare and creating an enabling environment for economic growth.


He calls on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while reflecting on unity and hard work as key to nation-building.
