Cuba’s president rejects calls to step down amid escalating tensions with Trump administration Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said he will not step down from office, rejecting suggestions that he should resign during an interview conducted in Havana in his first appearance with a U.S. broadcast network. When asked whether he would consider leaving office to help stabilize the country, Díaz-Canel pushed back sharply, saying Cuba’s leadership is not chosen by the United States and insisting the nation operates as a sovereign state. He added that stepping down “is not part of our vocabulary,” and defended Cuba’s political system as one based on domestic elections at the local level.  FRSC RECORDS 61.29% DROP IN TANKER FATALITIES IN 2025


The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has recorded 61.29% reduction in fatalities and a 5.53% decline in crash severity index in 2025.


In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, osondu Ohaeri, This was attributed to the implementation of the Safe-to-Load Programme and sustained campaign against tanker and trailer related crashes under the leadership of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed. 


The Corps Marshal says the Corps will not relent in its pursuit of zero fatalities warning that any tanker failing to meet Safe-to-Load requirements will be denied loading without exception, adding that all tanker-related crashes will attract comprehensive investigations extending across the entire value chain, from depot operators to vehicle owners.
