Military judge suppresses Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s FBI confession in 9/11 case A military judge has excluded a confession that alleged Sept. 11 attacks mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed gave to FBI agents nearly 20 years ago, ruling that the statements were not made voluntarily. The decision is a setback for the U.S. government's long-running effort to prosecute Mohammed, who is accused of helping develop the plot to hijack planes and crash them into the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Mohammed remains detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, alongside other defendants awaiting trial. Lt. Col. Michael Schrama, the judge overseeing the case, scheduled a June 2028 trial for Mohammed and three other defendants earlier this week. In an order issued Friday that has not been made public, Schrama barred prosecutors from using statements Mohammed made during four days of FBI questioning at Guantanamo in January 2007. Mohammed had previously been captured and held by the CIA, where he was subjec...

Group Defends Zonkwa Lawmaker, Hon. Emmanuel Kantiok, Dismisses Criticism Over Alleged Automatic Ticket Speculation, Says His Legislative And Constituency Performance Remains Unmatched

Supporters of Hon. Barr. Emmanuel Bako Kantiok, the lawmaker representing Zonkwa Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, have dismissed recent criticism surrounding speculation of an alleged automatic ticket for the 2027 elections, describing the claims as misleading and lacking substance.

Reacting to a publication by a group identified as “Concerned Citizens” of Zonkwa Constituency, which described the possibility of Kantiok securing an automatic APC ticket as a “looming political disaster,” the supporters said the report failed to reflect the verifiable realities on ground.

In a statement signed by Comrade Clement Bamai Solomon, the group insisted that Hon. Kantiok’s performance in both legislative duties and constituency development remains evident and unmatched.

According to the statement, Kantiok has served as Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary since 2019, a position described as the “engine room of lawmaking” in Kaduna State.

The group stated that under his leadership, over 200 bills have been processed by the committee, with the majority passed and assented to, thereby strengthening the state’s legal framework for governance and development.

They also highlighted what they described as one of his most significant legislative achievements—the amendment of the Kaduna State Traditional Institution Law, which restored the Kajju Chiefdom and the Agwam Kajju title.

The supporters said the move was not merely symbolic but represented the restoration of identity, history, and dignity for the Bajju people.

Beyond legislative work, the group listed several constituency projects allegedly facilitated by the lawmaker through strategic engagement with the executive arm of government.

These include the construction of classroom blocks at GSS Zonkwa, GSS Fadan Kamantan, GSS Madakiya, and LEA Fadiya Bakut, as well as renovations at UBE Fadiya Bakut, LEA Kamurum, and LEA Anfana.

Other projects mentioned include a solar-powered borehole in Fadiya Gida, a personally funded two-classroom block at LEA Zonkwa, a health clinic in Matsirga Community, and a mono-pump water source in Hausa Community, Kamantan.

The statement added that in his second term, Kantiok has continued to deliver projects, including the remodeling of LEA Primary School Anfana, additional classroom construction at GDSS Anfana, and the ongoing upgrade of all Primary Health Centres across the five ward headquarters to second-tier level.

The group maintained that Kantiok’s track record proves his commitment to effective representation and quality service delivery, stressing that criticism against him should be weighed against facts rather than political sentiment.

They concluded that his first term demonstrated his capacity, while his second term represents a continuation of that foundation, insisting that Hon. Kantiok remains one of the most impactful lawmakers in Kaduna State.
