Mr. Biden lives abroad: New filing reveals Hunter Biden’s location update
Hunter Biden is currently living outside the United States, according to a court filing tied to an ongoing legal dispute over unpaid legal fees.
The update came in a 14-page document submitted on April 6 by his attorney, Barry Coburn, who briefly noted that “Mr. Biden lives abroad.”
When contacted, Coburn declined to provide further details on his client’s location.
While the exact country of residence has not been confirmed, Hunter Biden, 56, previously spoke about dividing his time between the United States and Cape Town, South Africa, during a podcast interview in November 2025.
At the time, he explained that his wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, is originally from South Africa, and that the family had spent time there after previously living in California following their 2019 marriage.
“When all the political and personal stuff came to an end in the last six months, I had always promised that we would spend some time over here,” he said.
“I've fallen madly in love with Cape Town. You guys do not know how good you have it here. It’s the most beautiful city in the world.”
He also referenced circumstances that made returning to California difficult, noting damage caused by the 2024 Palisades fire, which affected the area around his Malibu home.
President Donald Trump later moved to end Secret Service protection for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden in March 2025. The decision was announced after images circulated of Hunter in South Africa, a country Trump has repeatedly and falsely accused of human rights abuses against white farmers.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump defended the move and criticized the level of taxpayer funding for the protection detail.
“Hunter Biden has had Secret Service protection for an extended period of time, all paid for by the United States Taxpayer.
There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous!” he wrote. “He is currently vacationing in, of all places, South Africa, where the Human Rights of people has been strenuously questioned.”
The White House also referenced the decision in a year-end summary, listing it among its “365 wins” and describing the removal of protection as a cost-saving measure.
Despite the political attention surrounding him, Hunter Biden has continued family interactions in the United States.
Earlier this month, he was seen spending Easter with former President Joe Biden, former First Lady Jill Biden, and other family members in California, according to photos shared by Ashley Biden.
