 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.  Kaduna Easter Church Attack: 31 Hostages Rescued, 5 Dead In Swift Military Operation


Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully thwarted a terrorist attack in Ariko Village, located in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, rescuing 31 civilians abducted during an Easter church service.


The incident took place at an ECWA Church during Easter celebrations, triggering a distress call that prompted an immediate military response. 


Acting quickly and with support from local residents, the troops engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the hostages.


Among those rescued was one injured victim, now receiving medical care.

Sadly, five individuals lost their lives in the attack, and their bodies were recovered at the scene.


Reports also indicated that the fleeing attackers may have suffered heavy casualties, as blood trails were seen along their escape paths.


In the aftermath, the Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to pursue the attackers, deploying additional personnel to strengthen security, prevent further incidents, and locate any remaining captives.


The Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity, vowing to continue coordinated operations with other security agencies and local communities.


Residents have also been encouraged to remain vigilant and support security efforts by sharing timely and reliable information, emphasizing that community cooperation is key to lasting peace.
