MOB BURNS 3 ALIVE OVER KILLING OF PLATEAU MONARCH

Tension gripped Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State after three suspected killers of a traditional ruler were set ablaze by an angry mob. The suspects were reportedly lynched after confessing to the crime.

Three individuals suspected to be behind the killing of a traditional ruler in Plateau State were on Friday night burnt to death by an enraged mob in Langtang North Local Government Area.

The victims were allegedly linked to the murder of Ponzhi Kwallak, a traditional ruler in the Kwallak community, who was attacked and killed in his residence on Thursday night.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants broke into the monarch’s home, killed him, and fled with his motorcycle, mobile phone, and other valuables.

The incident threw the community into mourning and sparked outrage, leading to a manhunt for those responsible.

Sources said the suspects were later apprehended while attempting to sell the stolen motorcycle. During interrogation, they reportedly confessed to their involvement in the killing.

However, efforts by some youths to hand them over to the police were said to have been thwarted by a group of hoodlums who forcefully seized the suspects.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told journalists that the mob took the suspects to an area near the council secretariat where they were set ablaze.

“The suspects were caught trying to sell the motorcycle, and after confessing, the mob attacked and burned them,” the source said.

As of the time of filing this report, attempts to reach the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered.

The incident highlights growing concerns over jungle justice and mob violence in parts of the country, despite repeated warnings by security agencies against taking the law into one’s hands.
