Separatist militants kill three Pakistan Coast Guard personnel in first attack on patrol boat in Arabian Sea, officials say

Separatist militants killed three Pakistan Coast Guard personnel on Sunday in what officials described as the first known attack on a maritime patrol boat in the Arabian Sea.

Security and intelligence officials said the vessel was on routine patrol in waters near the Pakistan-Iran border when armed attackers opened fire, killing all three personnel on board.

The assault highlights worsening security conditions in Balochistan, a volatile province where separatist groups have repeatedly targeted security forces and infrastructure.

The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility, calling the strike part of an expanded strategy that now includes maritime operations. The group said the attack marked a shift beyond its previous focus on land-based assaults.

Authorities said an investigation has been launched and security has been tightened across the coastal region following the incident.

Balochistan has long been the center of an insurgency involving separatist groups demanding independence and greater control over the province’s resources. The region is also home to Gwadar, a strategic deep-sea port that plays a key role in China’s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative, and has seen repeated attacks in recent years.

Officials have not provided additional details on the circumstances of the attack or the condition of the vessel.
