 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  South-East Ex-Governors Endorse Tinubu for 2027 Re-election, Inaugurate New Advisory Forum


Former governors from Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.


The endorsement came on Tuesday after the ex-governors held a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Lodge in Enugu, where they formally launched a new platform called the **South East Forum of Former Governors**.


According to the group, the forum is intended to function as a **non-partisan advisory body** that will offer guidance and support to the region’s serving governors on critical developmental matters and broader national issues.


Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, who is also a former governor of Ebonyi State, addressed journalists after the meeting and read the communique. He disclosed that the ex-governors reached a unanimous decision to back President Tinubu’s re-election, citing the administration’s ongoing infrastructure projects across the South-East and its policy of inclusive appointments as key factors behind their support.
