Stakeholders Call For Equity, Justice And Strategic Balance, Demand Zoning Of Zangon Kataf/Jaba House Of Representatives Seat To Zangon Kataf
Stakeholders across the Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency in Kaduna State have renewed calls for what they describe as equity, fairness, and strategic political balance in the rotation of the area’s seat in the House of Representatives.
In a communiqué addressed to the Governor of Kaduna State, the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), traditional rulers, religious leaders, community development associations, political stakeholders, and the electorate, the group advocated for the zoning of the federal legislative seat to Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.
The stakeholders argued that demographic and electoral figures demonstrate a significant imbalance in representation.
According to data presented in the communiqué, the constituency has a total population of 474,964, with Zangon Kataf Local Government accounting for 318,991 (about 67%), while Jaba Local Government accounts for 155,973 (about 33%).
They further noted that out of 257,595 registered voters, Zangon Kataf Local Government reportedly has 185,502 voters compared to Jaba’s 72,093, describing the difference as a decisive factor in electoral outcomes within the constituency.
The group also raised concerns about what it described as historical imbalance in representation since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
It stated that Jaba Local Government has produced members of the House of Representatives for four terms, while Zangon Kataf Local Government has held the position for three terms.
Within Zangon Kataf itself, the communiqué noted that the Zonkwa State Constituency has produced two representatives over the years, while the Zangon Kataf State Constituency has held the seat only once in the past 25 years.
Describing the situation as a “political anomaly,” the stakeholders argued that continued imbalance in zoning arrangements risks undermining fairness and could weaken political cohesion within the constituency.
They maintained that while the principle of rotational leadership has helped maintain unity within the area, it must be applied equitably across all blocs.
The group therefore called on the APC leadership and state authorities to consider zoning the next House of Representatives ticket to Zangon Kataf Local Government, with priority given to candidates from the Zangon Kataf State Constituency.
According to the communiqué, such a move would address long-standing internal disparities and strengthen political inclusion, while also reinforcing unity ahead of future elections.
The stakeholders concluded by reaffirming support for the APC and calling for continued cooperation among all communities within the constituency.
