 Trump claims Maryland mailed ‘illegal ballots’ in 2026 election dispute, officials say error led to replacement ballots, not fraud  President Donald Trump on Monday accused Maryland officials, including Democratic Gov. Wes Moore, of improperly sending hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots in what he alleged was an effort to help Democrats win elections. He made the claim on Truth Social and repeated it later at a White House event focused on health care affordability, saying he would ask the Justice Department to investigate the matter. The accusation followed a vendor error involving the state’s mail-in voting process ahead of Maryland’s 2026 gubernatorial primary. Election officials said the issue led to some voters receiving incorrect primary ballots and required the distribution of replacement ballots to ensure accuracy.  6 BRIGADE TROOPS NEUTRALISE TWO SUSPECTED BANDITS, RECOVER ARMS IN TARABA 


Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), deployed at Sarkin Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area( LGA) of Taraba State, have successfully neutralised two suspected bandits during a well-coordinated clearance operation aimed at flushing out criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.


Acting on credible intelligence received from a reliable source on 18 May 2026 regarding the activities of suspected bandits at a hideout around Dooshima District in the Sarkin Kudu area of Ibi LGA, troops swiftly mobilised to the general area for a tactical raid operation.


Upon reaching the area, the troops came in contact with the armed assailants, leading to a fierce exchange of fire with the criminals at the identified hideout. During the encounter, troops successfully neutralised two suspected bandits, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.


Items recovered from the operation include:


• One AK-47 rifle

• One AK-47 magazine

• One locally fabricated pistol

• One Android phone

• Three small mobile phones

• Two charm vests and other personal items 


The recovered items are currently in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.


Commenting on the successful operations, The Commander, 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their courage, bold handling and swift response which he noted was in line with the current proactive drive of the Bde and is in pursuit of the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to flush out criminal elements and ensure lasting peace and security across Taraba State and its environs.


The Commander  assured that the current reward and sanction system of the Comd would apply to the gallant soldiers involved in the raid operations.  He further reiterated  the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against all forms of criminality and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies in the State.
