A bizarre encounter ended with the arrest of a married couple. According to police reports, officers were called to the scene of an ongoing battery.
Once on scene, officers spoke with the victim of the attack. The victim informed officers that 66-year-old Terry Williams had approached her claiming to work for the Department of Children and Family Services.
She went on to explain that Terry then confronted her for disciplining her 4-year-old son. She told officers her son had been behaving badly, and when she had attempted to redirect the child, he had spit in her face. She told officers after her son spit in her face she had smacked him in the mouth one time and in the torso one time.
The Williams couple had observed her actions and had taken it upon themselves to intervene.
It began when Terry approached with false claims about his employment with DCFS. He went on to tell the mother she was not allowed to smack her son. The mother asked Terry to leave her alone, and he initially complied .
This is when his wife, Mary, decided to get involved. According to the mother and also witnesses on scene, Mary came in hot and began to act aggressively while disparaging the victim's parenting.
The mother had enough of the whole situation and asked Mary to leave her alone. She then attempted to put her child into the backseat of her car.
This is when Mary chose to escalate the situation yet again. Mary stepped in between the mother and child and their vehicle blocking her access to her vehicle.
At this point, the mother tried to slide Mary out of the way so she could put her child in and leave. Mary began to lash out with physical violence, reportedly putting her hands tightly around the victim's neck and scratching the mother in the face. The mother told officers she thought she was going to lose consciousness.
Thankfully, Mary stopped str@ngling the mother but began tearing at her shirt. At this point, Terry decided to re-enter the fray and grabbed the mother by her shirt and hair.
The husband and wife team would ultimately rip the mothers shirt completely off, leaving her standing in public in her bra.
After the combined attack, the mother was able to get a little distance and was attempting to flee when Mary jumped in her car and took her keys.
The ordeal continued to be volatile until officers arrived on the scene.
After speaking with witnesses and observing the obvious injuries on the mother that were consistent with her description of the attack, police arrested Mary and Terry Williams. The victim was not charged with anything.
Mary Williams is being charged with simple battery and burglary.
