The Abia State Police Command has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments, and other senior officers to intensify supervision of their subordinates to curb operational lapses, vicarious liability, and misconduct.
Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, issued the directive during an emergency conference with strategic officers of the Command held in Umuahia.
CP Isa stated that the charge was handed down by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. He emphasized the need for officers to maintain high standards of discipline and accountability in their formations.
In a related directive, the Commissioner announced that the Command’s medical team will be deployed across divisions and formations to assess the physical and mental well-being of personnel.
The CP further charged officers to strengthen visibility policing, enhance accessibility to members of the public, and uphold civility and professionalism at all times. He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for practices such as arrest by proxy, impunity, and other forms of corruption, which he said could erode public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
Additionally, officers were directed to familiarize themselves with relevant Nigerian laws, professional studies, and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) to improve their proficiency and effectiveness in the discharge of their duties.
