 New UK Prime Minister not the leader Britain needs — Kemi Badenoch UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, has congratulated Andy Burnham on becoming Britain’s new prime minister but said while he is “a nice man,” the country needs a leader capable of making difficult decisions rather than “a people pleaser.” In a statement released on Monday on X following Burnham’s assumption of office, Badenoch wished the new prime minister success but vowed to hold his government accountable as Leader of the Opposition. “Today, Britain has a new Prime Minister. I wish Andy Burnham every success. Because we need a Prime Minister and a Government focused on fixing the public’s priorities,” she said.  ACTDA Intensifies Enforcement Against Illegal Structures on Waterways

The Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Dr. Ossy Onuko, has announced the intensification of enforcement operations against illegal structures obstructing waterways and drainage channels within the capital territory.


Dr. Onuko, in a press statement on May 19, said the ongoing exercise, which includes the demolition and removal of illegal structures built on waterways, became necessary following the increasing cases of flooding caused by blocked drainage systems across the capital city.


The ACTDA boss also warned land grabbers and property developers against the illegal sale or allocation of waterways to unsuspecting members of the public for development purposes, stressing that such acts violate environmental and urban planning regulations.


According to him, any structure found obstructing waterways or drainage channels, regardless of its size or ownership, will be removed without further delay.


He further called on residents to support the agency by reporting blocked drainages, illegal structures and encroachment on waterways for immediate action.
