Anambra West Mayor Ndive Advocates Clean, Green and Healthy Environment

‎By Felix Igboanugo

‎The Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Edith Nkeiru Ndive has called on residents of Anambra West to embrace environmental cleanliness and healthy living as part of efforts to build a safer and healthier society.

‎Mrs. Ndive made the call on May 7, at the local council Secretariat Nzam, during a one-day sensitization workshop on “Operation Clean and Green: Desilt Waterways and Drainages,” organized by the Environmental Health and Sanitation Department of Anambra West Local Government Area for President-Generals of communities across the council.

‎Addressing participants at the workshop, the Mayor emphasized that environmental sanitation remains essential to the health and wellbeing of the people, noting that blocked drainage channels, indiscriminate refuse disposal and poor sanitation practices contribute significantly to flooding and disease outbreaks.

‎She urged the President-Generals to take the campaign for environmental cleanliness back to their various communities on the need to keep their surroundings clean, clear drainage channels, and adopt healthy environmental practices.

‎According to her, the “Operation Clean and Green” initiative is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, preventing environmental hazards and creating a healthier atmosphere for residents of Anambra West.

‎Mrs. Ndive further assured residents of her administration’s commitment to supporting environmental sanitation programmes and strengthening collaboration with community leaders to ensure a cleaner and greener environment.

The ‎Head of Department Environmental Health and Sanitation Mrs. Morka Amaka in her remarks, highlighted the need for sustained community participation in desilting drainage channels and waterways to prevent erosion, flooding and health-related challenges.

‎The President-Generals who attended the workshop commended the initiative and pledged their support towards ensuring cleaner environments in their respective communities. They spoke through Mr. Charles Nchezor.
