Serena Williams falls to 20-year-old Maya Joint in Wimbledon return after nearly four-year singles absence Serena Williams showed flashes of the power and precision that defined her Hall of Fame career in her return to professional singles tennis Tuesday, but ultimately fell short in a three-set opening-round loss at Wimbledon. The 44-year-old Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, was defeated 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 by 20-year-old Australian Maya Joint in a match that lasted 2 hours and 22 minutes on Centre Court. It marked Williams’ first singles appearance in nearly four years, since the 2022 U.S. Open. Williams still produced trademark moments, including powerful serves and heavy groundstrokes that once carried her to seven Wimbledon singles titles. APC PRIMARIES: FORMER MINISTER OF POWER ADEBAYO ADELABU CRIES OUT OVER ALLEGED RESULT MANIPULATION IN OYO STATE. (PHOTO)

Former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has raised serious allegations of result manipulation and electoral misconduct during the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Oyo State.

Adelabu, who is a leading governorship aspirant, made the allegation on Thursday while speaking with journalists after casting his vote at his polling unit.

The former minister, who recently resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet to contest the Oyo State governorship seat, warned that the process was marred by irregularities in several wards.

“I must sound this note of warning that it is not this way in a lot of other wards,” Adelabu said.

“Reports reaching me state that there are a lot of gross misconducts in the other wards, ranging from various forms of infractions. In some wards, they conducted the election hours before the appointed time and wrote the figures they liked.”

The development comes as the APC conducts its primaries across Oyo State to select a candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election. Adelabu’s allegation has raised concerns about the transparency and credibility of the exercise in the state.

As at press time, the Oyo State APC leadership is yet to respond to the claims made by the former minister.
