Singer Bonnie Tyler is recovering after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal, according to a statement released by her team.
The 74-year-old performer was hospitalized in Faro, Portugal, where she owns a home. Representatives said the surgery was successful and that Tyler is now recuperating, as family, friends, and fans wish her a speedy recovery. No additional details about the medical procedure were released.
Tyler rose to international fame during the 1980s with hit songs including Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero. Earlier in her career, she also gained recognition through songs such as It's a Heartache and Lost in France.
Throughout her decades-long career, Tyler became the first British female artist to debut at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and remains the only Welsh artist to top the UK Singles Chart. She has released 18 studio albums, with her most recent record, The Best Is Yet to Come, arriving in 2021.
Last year, Tyler said she still enjoys hearing Total Eclipse of the Heart played during major eclipse events around the world and said she never tires of performing the iconic ballad.
Despite the recent health scare, Tyler remains scheduled to perform later this month at the SummerLUST Music Festival in Malta. Additional tour dates are also planned across Germany, Hungary, Czechia, Scotland, and Turkey.
