Chemical Odour Incident: Ogun Govt Activates Emergency Response in Ijebu Ode

The Ogun State Government has activated emergency environmental and public health response measures following another chemical odour incident that affected students across several schools in Ijebu Ode.

Government officials, including the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, visited affected students receiving treatment, while OGEPA confirmed that elevated methane concentrations were detected within parts of the affected area through the state’s air quality monitoring system.

The government has since deployed a multi-agency team comprising environmental regulators, emergency response officials, and health experts to investigate the situation and ensure public safety.

Residents have been advised to remain calm, avoid open flames in affected areas, and promptly report symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, headaches, or respiratory discomfort to nearby health facilities.

The Ogun State Government remains committed to protecting lives, public health, and environmental safety as investigations continue.
