SENATE ADJOURNS EMERGENCY PLENARY ON STATE POLICE OVER REP’S DEATH. The Senate today suspended consideration of the highly anticipated State Police Bill and all other legislative business at its emergency plenary session to honour the memory of Hon. Yaya Tongo, a member of the House of Representatives, whose death cast a sombre mood over the National Assembly. The upper chamber had reconvened from recess amid expectations that lawmakers would accelerate action on the proposed constitutional amendment seeking to establish state police across the federation, a measure widely seen as a major step in the ongoing effort to reform Nigeria’s security architecture. However, proceedings were cut short after Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the death of Tongo, who represented the Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives.  Cleric Advocates Perseverance to Life Adversities

By David Okpala/Stella Okpala

The Parish Priest, St. Paul's Catholic Church, Akpo, Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Ubah has advocated perseverance to life adversities, describing it as requisite to achieving God's purpose of every circumstance.

He said this in a Homily during special Mass geared at uniting Akpo families, at Obi Umuokpalagbagosi Family, Agbelu Village, Akpo, in Aguata LGA, on May 12.

The cleric said, "Human existence is synonymous with challenges, these challenges are part of growth and development. The earlier we develop spiritual/ physical muscles to bear them, the better for us. Blaming fellow humans for problems, do not change them but later complicate them.

"If God has allowed any challenge to come to you, there must be a purpose. Only perseverance will make you get to the purpose of the problem.

"If there is no test, there will be no testimony. So, accept life challenges, follow God's principles which include constant prayers for his mercies, hard work, love for one another and God to solving them."

Fr Ubah enjoined young people to turn to God wholly, eschew idolatry, describing it as worsening life challenges instead of solving it.

The Holy Mass featured special prayer of unity, peaceful coexistence, progress, breakthroughs and open doors for Umuokpalagbagosi family at home and Diaspora.
