Residents of Ekpoma were thrown into mourning after a prominent businessman, Justice Abu Oshioke, was fatally shot by suspected kidnappers on Saturday night, May 2, 2026, just hours before the dedication of his newborn child.
Oshioke, Chief Executive Officer of the popular fast-food outlet Principle Takeout, was attacked at around 9:55 p.m. in the Idumebo area of Ekpoma while returning home.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants attempted to abduct him by dragging him into the bush, but the victim resisted. He was subsequently shot. Passersby rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread shock and fear among residents, who have expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity in the area.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, said the command was “deeply saddened” by the murder.
“The Edo State Police Command is deeply saddened by the tragic murder of Justice Abu Oshioke. He was fatally shot by unidentified armed men on 2nd May 2026 at about 9:55 p.m. at Idumebo, Ekpoma,” Ikoedem stated.
She added that the victim was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has directed a full-scale investigation into the killing. Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and have appealed to members of the public to provide any useful information that could aid the investigation.
