 Trump weighs limited strikes on Iran to protect ships and aircraft in Strait of Hormuz  President Donald Trump and senior administration officials are weighing limited U.S. strikes against Iranian military positions in the Strait of Hormuz to prevent Tehran from rebuilding radar, air defense and anti-ship missile systems that could threaten vessels, according to U.S. officials. The plan was developed by U.S. Central Command over the past week and has received support from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, but Trump had not approved the strikes before a new round of fighting with Iran over the weekend. The proposal is intended to reduce the threat to oil tankers, U.S. Navy ships and military aircraft operating in the strategically important waterway. A devastating fire destroyed office equipment, critical documents, and other valuables, ravaging the Sokoto State Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the early hours of Saturday. The inferno, which broke out around 3 a.m., was likely caused by an electrical fault, according to NLC state secretary Hamisu Hussaini, with the damage described as extensive . 

The blaze consumed vital documents spanning over 30 years, office equipment, including computers, printers, refrigerators, televisions, and furniture. The watchman on duty was unable to contain the fire as it spread rapidly through the building. Firefighters arrived at the scene late but eventually brought the blaze under control 

 The incident has sparked calls for urgent improvements in Nigeria's power infrastructure, with stakeholders warning that unchecked electricity fluctuations pose a growing threat to lives and property nationwide. Sokoto State NLC Chairman Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu expressed deep anguish over the incident, describing it as both "unfortunate and disheartening" 2 This recent fire adds to a troubling pattern of fire incidents linked to electrical faults across the country, underscoring the urgent need for systemic reforms in the power sector.
